Our English & Foreign Language classes includes creative writing, bookclub reading, as well as Spanish and French classes that prepares students for courses at school.
June 12 - July 3
Saturday & Sunday 5:00-6:00 pm PST (1 hour)
This summer session consists of 7 lessons in total with the last couple of weeks guiding students to complete a final project. The final project asks students to use their creativity to show the writing and speaking skills they have acquired. Our course would include the Spanish syllable, basic vocabularies for everyday use, as well as basic grammar such as verb form and grammatical gender for nouns.
Tutor Ruyi M
As a high school junior, Ruyi began taking Spanish courses in seventh grade. With four years of study, she has completed Spanish I to Spanish III maintaining As in the course all four years. In this summer course, her class would prepare middle school students and incoming high school students for Spanish I.

This is an introductory class to learning the French language. Students will cover fundamentals such as pronunciation, numbers, greetings, sentence structure, and conjugation. They will be shown presentations on different aspects of French culture (museums, architecture, daily life, celebrations). Activities may include Kahoot games, themed vocabulary, and watching video clips. Depending on the student's knowledge of French, practices can be arranged to help with conversation skills.
Tutor Angela Z
Angela Zhou is a high school junior and has taken french courses up to AP French. She has a general understanding of the different French levels and can give students a heads up on what will be covered.
June 28 - August 6
Mon 4:00-5:00 PM. PST (7:00-8:00 PM. EST) & Fri 3:00-4:00 PM. PST (6:00-7:00 PM. EST), time is still negotiable before first day of class
This course will introduce students to different forms of creative writing, competitions, and publications. The goal of this course is to help students become more confident in writing. Students will receive individualized, constructive feedback for each assignment.
Note that all students should be comfortable sharing their writings with both peers and the mentor. All assignments are mandatory and the weekly workload outside class is approximately 2 hours. If the student is unable to follow these expectations, please reconsider signing up for this course.
The suggested age range of students for this course is grades 6-9. Elementary school students with exceptional reading and writing skills are welcomed to participate, but be prepared for advanced course materials.

ShengYao Liu is an experienced writer, poet, and tutor; a rising junior in highschool. Her works have been recognized by the Scholastic Arts & Writing Awards and featured on KXL radio.
June 26 - August 29
4:00-5:00 PM PST, every Friday, Saturday, Sunday
This course is designed to allow students to have a deeper understanding in a book. Students are expected to buy or borrow the class book so that they are ready for the discussions during class. It would be helpful if students have the books prepared before the class starts. The titles are: Night by Elie Wiesel and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee.
Students are expected to come to class or make up using the class recordings. Students can also ask any questions related to the material discussed either during class or via email. Homework will include reading the assigned chapters of the book and an assigned article. Completing the homework before each class is required so that students can participate during class.
Tutor Lala W
Lala Wu is going into 9th grade at the Edgemont Junior/Senior High School in New York. Ever since a young age, she worked diligently in math and has received straight As in her honors math classes. Having no tutor experience, she is interested in beginning to tutor other students.
This course is mainly focused on First Grade to Fourth Grade level reading. Throughout the course, students will strengthen their reading skills and their critical thinking skills by practicing reading comprehension. Students will learn how to construct sentences as they do more reading practices throughout the course.
